Haryana Engineering College, Jagadhri was established in 1998 at Jagadhri,  to impart “education with a difference” in various disciplines of engineering and meet the ever-increasing need of competent technical personnel in the country. H.E.C. is in its 11th year of operation, having shaped the future of over 3000 students so far, and they are currently associated with leading organizations in different parts of India and abroad. The transitions of these students have been gradual from basic engineering to the high profile. Some have joined institutes of repute to further their academic pursuits.
 The college has been promoted by Mata Sudershan Tilak Raj Dhawan Educational Trust, with a view to establish educational and other philanthropic institutions. Shri Inderjeet Bajaj is the Chairman of the trust. College focuses on the fact that students are its ultimate product.
 Apart from being a good engineer, a student must be nurtured to be a good citizen and a good human being as well. Besides rigorous academics, the students are sensitized towards excellence through interaction with students of colleges belonging to other states, special invited lectures, social workshops, debates, quizzes,  personality development programs, cultural & sports competitions. The whole campus is air-conditioned and wi-fi enabled with 5 Mbps internet connectivity round the clock. The institute’s highly qualified & dedicated faculty, ultra modern laboratories embracing cutting-edge technology, a spacious Central Library with more than 21,500 books & 50 National / International journals, 252 online foreign journals through INDEST, separate hostels for boys and girls  with modern amenities, 24 hours power back-up, notable achievements in Game,  Sports & Cultural activities and technical competence exhibited by students at various levels have been instrumental in enhancing the reputation of the institute. The placement cell has been quite active with good placements in reputed organization like InfoSys, Accenture, Patni Computers, L & T InfoTech, Honey-well, Torry Harris, Tech. Mahindra & many more.   

It is academically affiliated to Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra – a State University.  The administrative process of the institute is managed by the Board of Management.
The institute has all the inbuilt infrastructure and excellent facilities to pursue academic studies and research. The institute offers five B. Tech. courses in the major disciplines of engineering and technology.  From this year, the M.B.A. degree course is also going to start.  The institute admits the students to various courses through an All India Based Entrance Examination (AIEEE). Reputed industrial houses across the country visit the institute regularly for the campus recruitment programs. The placement cell coordinates quite well with the corporate sector and provides well-developed infrastructure to facilitate the campus selection programs.
